S60 marked a clear breakthrough in the traditional Volvo box design for brand, at the time of the 1980 - and 1990's. It responded to the design team, led by Peter Horbury. It was planned design based on S80 and it was most significant in the Volvo style directions after Horbury joined the company in 1992. Volvo marketed the car messenger "Revolution."

It was built on the Volvo P2 platform, which was uniform in three other Volvo model sites: S80, V70 and XC90.

* Presentation of Paris Motor Show in autumn 2000. In 2002, in Paris, was presented to the top of range S60R-model.
* The 2004 model was a light face-lift, with mm. bumpers and lights renewed.
* In 2005, the S60 through improved slightly by harmonizing the body color on the lists and the buffer, and new headlights. The T5 engine received an additional efficacy of 10 hp in the same year.

S60 of the main production site is the Belgian Ghent. Since 2001, the S60 model is also assembled in Malaysia, where Volvoja has already been made since 1951. Malaysia have been a 2-liter 180 hevosvoimaisella and the 2.3-liter 250 hevosvoimaisella engine equipped with the S60 models. Third, the assembly place is Thailand, which has been completed since 2001, 180 - and 200-hevosvoimaisia models. The car was registered in 2008 in Finland, a total of 814 copies. [1]

English police quality, the models were completed Volvo wide-ranging work of one S60 users and the police. First, the car suspension was updated to respond to police requirements, this included the etujousituksen D5 model version (the suspension was designed to work with heavier diesel engines used in). In previous models, the switch also was replaced by a stronger D5 of the unit.

The larger the battery, and 110A: AC charger was also adapted to run all the accessories, together with the police, the fuse box, which was the luggage. Separate wiring was installed on the police radio and other equipment for, including CCTV cameras. Even the sound system was added to the police use. The speed meter has been calibrated at the factory, and therefore not required to recalibrate, if major changes to the car was done.
